Small Animal Studies
The small animal studies are conducted by the Division of Laboratory Animal Sciences and the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Toxicology.
Each division can supply Biosafety Level 2 or 3 housing and husbandry for infectious agent and chemical studies as well as Biosafety Level 3 laboratory practices.
All studies are directly supervised by American Association for Laboratory Animal Science certified technicians and technologists.
Division of Laboratory Sciences
The Division of Laboratory Sciences focuses on studies utilizing mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. In addition to breeding services including transgenics, transfections, and chimeras and, when required, genetic screening, the Division supports studies in immunology, antibody production and preclinical vaccine evaluation.
The Division has the following contracts:
The National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Contract to maintain an animal facility for breeding, housing and handling virus-infected mice, genetically manipulated mice and chimeric mice, and the provision of attendant research services in support of immunology research by the Immunology Branch of the NCI.
Provision of acclimatized, conditioned rabbits to NCI investigators. Also provide immunization and collection of antibody containing sera.
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive
and Kidney Diseases
Housing and maintenance of rabbits for immunization and collection
of antibody containing sera.
Task Orders
The Division of Laboratory Sciences also supports several government agencies and local research corporations in the performance of tasks involving the housing and maintenance of small animals. The available services are described on the Contract Services page.
